Our Mission

To provide a registration, referral and information exchange service in the areas of sexuality education, research and therapy.

Objectives 

ASSERT has specific objectives:

  • To advance the scientific study and professional practice of sexuality education, research and therapy.

  • To encourage and promote, through its members and the wider community, the development of related areas of professional knowledge and practice of sexology.

  •  To maintain and encourage high standards of professional ethics, competence, conduct, education and qualifications among professionals in the field of sexology.

  •  To achieve wider dissemination of knowledge and thought about sexology and related issues.

 Major Short-term Goal

  • To work with health professionals, the community, State and Federal Governments to regulate the sexual therapy, sexuality education and sexual research professions.

  • To assist in the development of legislation of the registration, regulation and minimum training of sexual therapists and sexuality educators.

  •  To publish an Australian Journal of Sexology.


ASSERT Profile

ASSERT is a multi-disciplinary professional National Society founded in 1977 to provide opportunities for people working in the field of sexology to network, meet and exchange ideas of common interest.  ASSERT originated in NSW and through networking and supporting people with similar interests soon established affiliated branches throughout Australia.

  • ASSERT is an affiliated National organisation of the World Association for Sexology.

  • ASSERT, through its state branches, is active in education and is a forum for the exchange of ideas, research results and developments in sexology practice.
